Creating this exhibition and inaugurating it at the Parliament of Canada is the brainchild of Amarjit Singh Kalra (Ambi) who has worked for the past two years to put together this exhibition.

The idea of developing a brand of Sikh Fashion Collection was envisaged by Ambi Kalra in 1999, soon after witnessing the exhibition "The Arts of Sikh Kingdom” at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Being involved in the business of building brands such as RCMP of Canada, Hockey Canada, Canadian Olympics etc., Ambi Kalra endeavored to create a bold project called “Spirit Born the Empire Collection for the Tribe".

  • Ambi Kalra sought the exclusive rights for all the artistic images pertaining to the “The Arts of Sikh Kingdoms” artifacts and arts from Dr. Narendra Singh Kapani of Sikh Foundation in California and Harbinder Singh Rana of Maharaja Duleep Singh Centenary Trust and Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail (ASHT).

  • Upon learning that, His Lordship Sirdar Iqbal Singh, Lord of Butley Manor, in Scotland had registered a Singh Tartan, the first Asian tartan in the world. Spirit Born immediately formed a close association with his majesty. This enabled Spirit Born to launch Singh Tartan collection to the public along with Singh Coat of Arms as a formal insignia for all the Sikhs in the world.

  • The first official involvement of Spirit Born was to be the Corporate Sponsor of the Sikh Centennial Foundation Gala in April 1999.

  • Spirit Born was a partner in launching the Spinning Wheel Sikh Film Festival at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in September 2003.

  • The gentleman who introduced Ambi Kalra to prominent Sikh organizations around the world was T. Sher Singh, Guelph, Ontario.

  • In 2006, Spirit Born honored the prominent Ghazal Singer Jagjit Singh at the Roy Thompson theatre by commissioning an artist to paint Jagjit Singh’s personal portrait. This was the beginning of Jagjit Singh’s close relationship with Spirit Born.

  • In 2008, Spirit Born commissioned Jaswant Singh of Brampton, Ontario, Canada to paint the latest portrait of Jagjit Singh, to celebrate the present exhibition. This painting will be showcased at the upcoming Spinning Wheel film festival at Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in September, 2009.

  • Spirit Born was also a partner with The Spinning Wheel Film Festival in Toronto in October 2008.

  • Spirit Born partnered with The Spinning Wheel Film Festival at the Beverley Hills California in November 2008.

  • Spirit Born was awarded the Heritage award for previewing the "Spirit Born People Defending the World” at the Writers Guild Theatre in Beverley Hills California in November 2008.

  • In December 2008, Spirit Born formed a close association and working relationship with Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail (ASHT) in London, England for future Sikh Heritage projects.

  • In 2009, Spirit Born joined Maharajahs The Legacy with the help of Kulbir Colin Singh Dhillon and Samsher Singh Sidhu and formed Spirit Born foundation.
